FAQ

  • Expand/Collapse Where is the meeting point?

All Segway tours begin at our office, located at 502 23rd Street NW, Washington, DC 20037, near the intersection of 23rd and E Streets in Columbia Plaza.

  • Expand/Collapse Whats the difference between the National Mall and Segway Experience Tours?

The National Mall Tour is a three hour Segway tour and costs $75/person whereas the Segway Experience is two hours and costs $65/person. Each tour will visit the White House, Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial and just about everything in between. The National Mall tour will add stops down Pennsylvania Avenue, the Capitol Building, the National Mall, Smithsonian Castle and more. And if you are looking for a little more time to visit the Jefferson, FDR or MLK Memorials which are not included on either of these tours, you can check out the Monuments and Memorials Tour.

  • Expand/Collapse Is there an age or weight limit?

For your riding safety, guests must be at least 16 years of age and weigh at least 100 pounds and not in excess of 260 pounds. Yes, unfortunately the age restriction is City Law and no, there are no exceptions.

  • Expand/Collapse Can I rent a Segway without a guide?

Unfortunately, we do not rent our Segways out to individuals without a guide. Since our tours are virtually always full, we need all machines for our tour customers.

  • Expand/Collapse Do we go inside the museum and monuments?

Unfortunately we do not enter the museums and other attractions listed on our tour page as we devote as much time as we can to the tour itself. We will make short stops to learn about the museums and other attractions and give you a great orientation of the city so you'll know exactly where you will want to go after the tour.

  • Expand/Collapse My child is 13 years old and rode a Segway in another city, can he/she ride?

Unfortunately, not. There are absolutely no exceptions to the City Law which requires all riders be at least 16 years old.

  • Expand/Collapse What is your cancellation policy?

Space is limited on our Segway tours and though we may have upwards of 30 guests going out, we guarantee small groups with one of our many highly trained tour guides. For these reasons, we do require reservations. When you reserve a tour, we schedule our exceptional guides and support staff to make your Segway tour the best experience possible. For this reason we require a minimum of 72 hours notice for cancellations and/or rescheduling of tours. If you fail to meet your appointment, we still incur the same expenses, we probably have turned away others guests that would like to go on tour, and tour guides may have shown up just for your group. Therefore, there are no refunds for those guests who fail to show for a reservation or cancel without 72 hours notice.

  • Expand/Collapse Are tours cancelled in case of rain?

No, all of our tours run rain or shine. In the event of rain, guides will have ponchos that are free of charge.

  • Expand/Collapse Are reservations required?

Reservations are required for every tour we offer. All walk-up customers will be accommodated in the best possible manner based on guide and Segway availability. Our tours fill to capacity on a regular basis. For this reason we highly suggest making a reservation online or contacting us directly to make a reservation. We don't want to fill our tour and miss showing you around!

  • Expand/Collapse Are the Segways safe for children or people with disabilities?

We have had several people with disabilities join our tours. The necessary range of motion required to operate a Segway is similar to that of being able to transfer weight from one foot to another while walking. Also, riding a Segway does require the need to be able to stand for long periods of time.

  • Expand/Collapse How big will my group be?

Our tours operate in groups of 8 people per tour guide.

  • Expand/Collapse What if my party is more than 8 people?

If the party is larger than 8 the group will be split up for safety reasons on our standard tours. We can take larger groups as private tours; however those are subject to different pricing and plans and must be made in advance to make allowances for tour guides and machines.

  • Expand/Collapse What time do I need to get there for my tour?

Your tour will start promptly at the scheduled time, therefore please arrive 15 minutes prior to tour departure time in order to complete the necessary paperwork. Please be aware that we have multiple tours departing throughout the day, therefore if you arrive more than 30 minutes early we may still be working with other guests. This means that even if you arrive early, your tour will still begin at the normaly scheduled time. Each member of your party will be required to complete and sign a liability waiver form. Minors under the age of 18 will need a parent or guardian to complete their paperwork.

  • Expand/Collapse Will I need to put down a deposit?

We do not take a deposit, though we do ask one member of your party to provide us with a credit card to save on file while you are on tour. Your card will not be charged unless there is damage caused to the Segway and card information will be deleted immediately upon completion of a damage-free tour.

  • Expand/Collapse I've never ridden a Segway before; will I be able to pick it up quickly?

Your safety is always our highest priority; therefore, we begin each tour with a very thorough orientation of the Segway and its use before going out to enjoy the city! Each of our tours will begin with a short safety video followed by time to practice in our training area across the street and instruction from your tour guide. We will practice on the Segways until everyone feels comfortable.

  • Expand/Collapse I have ridden a Segway before; is there anything I should know?

We do our best to make accommodations for returning riders once we get out on tour, however please be aware that we prefer to train new riders first to give them as much time as possible to practice. While some returning guests wonder why they can't simply be set up on their machines and left to explore, we ask that you remain patient while we allow first-time riders to get acclimated with a minimum of distractions or other riders in the training area. These delays are usually 5-10 minutes at most and help us keep our training area as safe and efficient as possible.

Segway Experience Tour Reviews

SEGWAY EXPERIENCE TOUR is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 58.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best way to see DC My friend came for a short visit so we decided to do a Segway tour and play tourist. This was such a great way to see highlights of the city. Our tour guide Rory was wonderfully patient teaching us all how to ride, and then taking pictures of us when we would stop. He shared lots of little tidbits about DC that you wouldn't get reading a tour book. He was also extremely careful to keep an eye on all of us, especially when we were in crowded or busy areas. He also made sure we stayed hydrated - important on a hot day. I will be back for more tours with this company when we have other out of town guests.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best attraction in DC My wife and I were a bit apprehensive about using segways, it was our first experience and we're both over 65. However our daughter who was celebrating her 40th birthday with us and her two daughters was keen to try them. SO GLAD WE DID. Right from the start with our 'training run' outside the segway center we took to the personal transport and became more and more thrilled as our experience grew. Our guide and trainer was perfect for us, encouraging us at times and also warning us of any tricky bits we might encounter. When you consider the setting for our tour (the White House, the Mall and it's monuments & memorials, some roads, some sidewalks and some paved areas), you have to say it was a totally successful experience.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Segway was fun, Guide was immature This was my 2nd time to use city segway tour in DC. Both experiences were good overall, but this last one I was put with a very immature guide. She was very nice, just unprofessional in her explanations. I was disappointed we didn't get paired with a guide who took the tour more seriously and explained things professionally, not like a high schooler. But the segway tour is a great way to see the city! So much fun! We were still glad we chose to do this, even though we had higher hopes for the guide portion of the tour.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved this tour! We were so happy with this tour. Josh, our tour guide, was terrific. He was so helpful in teaching us how to ride a Segway. Then took us on the 2-hour tour pointing out the most interesting sights - and he had very interesting facts about the monuments and buildings that you just don't hear anywhere else. He was friendly, easy-going and knowledgeable. He really made it a great tour! It was our first time on segways and we're so glad we did it! I highly recommend this tour!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good name The whole experience was great fun. We particularly appreciated our Tour Guide Theodora Frangatkis who was a great teacher, full of information about the sites we visited (things I had never known before), and led us very skillfully and safely through huge crowds and lots of traffic (more than usual because of the opening day of the new African American Museum of History and Culture) What a what a way to see the famous places in downtown D.C..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good fun! My wife and I have lived in the DC area for many years, and this is not the first segway experience we've had. This time we decided to use a different company, one based in the GW area, rather than more downtown. So the sites we visited were somewhat different. The tour was very professionally done, with a knowledgeable guide. Weather wasn't great, but overall it was lots of fun. We'll certainly do it again (or buy our own segways. . .)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You Can do it!! My daughter had been talking about doing a Segway tour for a couple of years and we are so glad we finally took one. It was one of the most fun things we have done as a family. At first we weren't sure we could balance on it or stop it but our tour guide Sam was very patient with each of us during the training phase. Once we got on the road, it was no problem! Buzzing around the capital was so much fun.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Tour! My boyfriend and I wanted to do a unique tour of DC. We found the segways and loved it! Our tour guide showed us around the monuments on the mall, and even though it was such a hot day we had a great time. I was super nervous that I wouldn't be able to handle the segway, but our tour guide was patient and helped me get comfortable before we went out. Great tour - would definitely recommend!
