FAQ

  • Expand/Collapse Are reservations required?

Reservations are not required for our D.C. bike tours but are highly recommended to guarantee that there will be space on the tour. If you have children in your group, if you are booking a large group (8 or more), or if you are looking to book a night tour, reservations are strongly recommended.

  • Expand/Collapse What is your cancellation policy?

We offer 100% refunds on all tours if the reservation is cancelled more than 72 hours (3 days) before the scheduled tour. We do not offer refunds for any reason once we are within 72 hours of the scheduled tour.

  • Expand/Collapse Do we go inside the museum and monuments?

Unfortunately, we cannot enter the museums due to time constraints on the Day and Night Bike Tour. Besides, there's always some people that want 10 minutes in the Smithsonians and others that want 3 hours. We do reserve time to walk around some memorials on tour (for example, the Lincoln Memorial, the Korean War Memorial and the Vietnam Memorial). Our bike tours are designed to enjoy the city from a broad perspective so that's what we're going to do!

  • Expand/Collapse Are tours cancelled in case of rain?

No, our tours run rain or shine. We have ponchos available for anyone that needs them in our office. They are only $1 and we gladly will buy them back from you if you don't use them during your tour. We encourage all guests to take a look at the forecasted weather and plan how you dress accordingly.

  • Expand/Collapse How big will my group be?

Our tours operate in groups of 16 people per tour guide.

  • Expand/Collapse Are bike tours appropriate for kids?

Absolutely! We have tons of families as we're a great family activity. We have 4 options for children depending on their age, size, and riding ability:

    • For children under 18 months of age or 45lbs (20kg), we have baby seats that can be attached to the back of a bike.
    • For children children weighing up to 65lbs (30kg), we have trailers that can be left open or zipped up to fully enclose the passenger.
    • For children up to 12 years old or 100lbs (45kg), we have 2 wheeled tandem trailers. The passenger sits on a seat and can pedal or coast. All riders over 100lbs (45kg) must ride their own bicycle. We have various smaller sized mountain bikes for those able to ride on their own, and of course, our regular beach cruisers for children big enough to ride them.
    • Unfortunately, we do not have any adult tricycles or bikes with training wheels for adults that may be less confident in their riding ability. If possible, please let us know if you would like one of our tandems, trailers, baby seats, or child bikes in advance that you'd like to reserve either a child seat or trailer.
    • Please Note: All child bikes use hand brakes. There are no pedal brakes available.
  • Expand/Collapse Can I rent a bike without a guide?

Yes! We are happy to provide hourly and daily bike rentals out of our office. Please see our Bike Rentals page for more information and how to reserve a bike.

  • Expand/Collapse Do your tours ride in the streets?

For some parts, but most of our tour is on the National Mall or on large bike/pedestrian paths. We carefully designed tour routes with safety as the top priority. Whether on the street, bike lane, or pedestrian path, you always have a tour guide who is an expert and safely maneuvering your group around the city.

  • Expand/Collapse Do I have to wear a helmet?

Yes. Your safety is top priority for us and studies have shown that helmets can reduce head injuries by at least 85%. Therefore, we do require all riders to wear helmets on our tours.

  • Expand/Collapse What is provided with the tour?

Along with one of our phenomenal tour guides, every guest will recieve a bike, helmet, and a bottle of water. Additional waters are available for purchase in our office for $1 and we also have a water bottle filling station that is available to use for free.

  • Expand/Collapse Whats the difference between the Day Bike and Night Bike Tours?

The difference is day and night! Our day time bike tour will take you to the White House, U.S. Capitol Building, the National Mall, Lincoln Memorial and everything in between. Our night bike tour will go to the Lincoln, Korean, and Vietnam Memorials then around the Tidal Basin to check out the Martin Luther King, Franklin Roosevelt, and Jefferson Memorials. The night bike tour is a perfect mix of biking around our beautiful city and walking around the memorials, where the day bike is scheduled to maximize the number of sites visited while still keeping a leisurely pace.

Note, the night bike tour will NOT visit the U.S. Capitol Building.

Monuments & Memorials Night Bike Tour Reviews

WASHINGTON, DC NIGHT BIKE TOUR is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 32.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect evening! We had a wonderful time in the sunset monument tour. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and funny and did a great job of making sure we were safe in the city and got all the time we needed to enjoy each monument. The bikes were also some of the best we've rented in any big city. Washington D.C. at night is the best way to see the monuments and it was the highlight of our trip to the capital! I highly recommend doing a bike tour with Capitol Bike Tours.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful way to see the monuments!! We had been on a bike tour of Versailles last year, and thought this would be another fun family adventure- and it was!! It was a refreshing change of view from all the museums, traffic, and walking around the city. We have 11 and 14 year old daughters and they loved it too. The sunset tour was perfect time of day. We saw all the major monuments and had time to walk around each and take pictures while they kept bikes secure. The time riding on streets was limited and was never stressed about cars around, mostly we were on bike paths. It was definitely a highlight of our trip!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice family activity We could easily have rented bikes and visited the monuments on our own but it was carefree having a guide and the stories kept our boys interested in each stop. Glad we did it! One complaint : one of our bikes fenders was rubbing and squeaky the whole time but our guide didn'toffer to have a staff person swap the bike out after 1 or 2 stops. It was a really annoying noise! I had to separate myself from my husband to enjoy the scenary.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best thing we did! We took the evening tour the day we arrived to get a feel for the city. They were very polite in giving us directions to their office. Our guide was very nice and patient, clear to explain procedures and super knowledgable about the city and cites. We would recommend it to everyone who visits dc. Ps. We are a family of 6 with ages ranging from 17 to 8. All had a great time and no issues getting around.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What a blast! We had a few hours in DC on one night of a conference and this activity was suggested as an option. I underestimated how much fun it would be and how many things we would get to see! I really got an amazing overview of the sites, a fun tour guide, a decent amount of exercise, and a great time! It poured the second half of our ride, but it didn't dampen our spirits. What a blast! Definitely check this out!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Tour! I planned a quick trip to DC and I had a little free time, and saw this tour at night and thought it might be cool. This tour was amazing, our tour guide Alex was amazing, she knew so many facts, was able to answer any questions, and was super nice and friendly. I highly recommend this tour because it allows you to see most memorials that you would want to see in an exciting and unique way.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best part of our trip to DC My husband, son, and I all agree that our evening bike tour was a highlight of our DC trip. It is so cool to see the monuments at night, and our tour guide was knowledgable, friendly, and funny. As a student majoring in history, he clearly had a passion for history and liked his job as a tour guide. If you're thinking about this bike tour, do it!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great way to see it all, but not much explanation Good route and fast way to see it all by bike. Best of all it is beautiful to see at night. However the tour guide didn't give a lot of explanation. He did give a lot if time to explore each area. If your looking for a detailed explanation of the memorials, this is not the tour for you. If you're looking for quantity, then this is great.
