FAQ

  • Expand/Collapse Are reservations required?

Reservations are not required for our D.C. bike tours but are highly recommended to guarantee that there will be space on the tour. If you have children in your group, if you are booking a large group (8 or more), or if you are looking to book a night tour, reservations are strongly recommended.

  • Expand/Collapse What is your cancellation policy?

We offer 100% refunds on all tours if the reservation is cancelled more than 72 hours (3 days) before the scheduled tour. We do not offer refunds for any reason once we are within 72 hours of the scheduled tour.

  • Expand/Collapse Do we go inside the museum and monuments?

Unfortunately, we cannot enter the museums due to time constraints on the Day and Night Bike Tour. Besides, there's always some people that want 10 minutes in the Smithsonians and others that want 3 hours. We do reserve time to walk around some memorials on tour (for example, the Lincoln Memorial, the Korean War Memorial and the Vietnam Memorial). Our bike tours are designed to enjoy the city from a broad perspective so that's what we're going to do!

  • Expand/Collapse Are tours cancelled in case of rain?

No, our tours run rain or shine. We have ponchos available for anyone that needs them in our office. They are only $1 and we gladly will buy them back from you if you don't use them during your tour. We encourage all guests to take a look at the forecasted weather and plan how you dress accordingly.

  • Expand/Collapse How big will my group be?

Our tours operate in groups of 16 people per tour guide.

  • Expand/Collapse Are bike tours appropriate for kids?

Absolutely! We love hosting families and our tours make a great family-friendly activity. You can see all of our bike options, including kid's equipment by clicking here. Please note that no kids options would be available for the Electric Bike tours.

  • Expand/Collapse Can I rent a bike without a guide?

Yes! We are happy to provide hourly and daily bike rentals out of our office. Please see our Bike Rentals page for more information and how to reserve a bike.

  • Expand/Collapse Do your tours ride in the streets?

For some parts, but most of our tour is on the National Mall or on large bike/pedestrian paths. We carefully designed tour routes with safety as the top priority. Whether on the street, bike lane, or pedestrian path, you always have a tour guide who is an expert and safely maneuvering your group around the city.

  • Expand/Collapse Do I have to wear a helmet?

Yes. Your safety is top priority for us and studies have shown that helmets can reduce head injuries by at least 85%. Therefore, we do require all riders to wear helmets on our tours.

  • Expand/Collapse What is provided with the tour?

Along with one of our phenomenal tour guides, every guest will recieve a bike, helmet, and a bottle of water. Additional waters are available for purchase in our office for $1 and we also have a water bottle filling station that is available to use for free.

  • Expand/Collapse Whats the difference between the Day Bike and Night Bike Tours?

The difference is day and night! Our day time bike tour will take you to the White House, U.S. Capitol Building, the National Mall, Lincoln Memorial and everything in between. Our night bike tour will go to the Lincoln, Korean, and Vietnam Memorials then around the Tidal Basin to check out the Martin Luther King, Franklin Roosevelt, and Jefferson Memorials. The night bike tour is a perfect mix of biking around our beautiful city and walking around the memorials, where the day bike is scheduled to maximize the number of sites visited while still keeping a leisurely pace.

Note, the night bike tour will NOT visit the U.S. Capitol Building.

Monuments & Memorials Night Bike Tour Reviews

WASHINGTON, DC NIGHT BIKE TOUR is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 71.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect evening! We had a wonderful time in the sunset monument tour. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and funny and did a great job of making sure we were safe in the city and got all the time we needed to enjoy each monument. The bikes were also some of the best we've rented in any big city. Washington D.C. at night is the best way to see the monuments and it was the highlight of our trip to the capital! I highly recommend doing a bike tour with Capitol Bike Tours.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful way to see the monuments!! We had been on a bike tour of Versailles last year, and thought this would be another fun family adventure- and it was!! It was a refreshing change of view from all the museums, traffic, and walking around the city. We have 11 and 14 year old daughters and they loved it too. The sunset tour was perfect time of day. We saw all the major monuments and had time to walk around each and take pictures while they kept bikes secure. The time riding on streets was limited and was never stressed about cars around, mostly we were on bike paths. It was definitely a highlight of our trip!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good tour but a little stressful I really enjoyed the tour, managed to visit all the major sights in 3 hours which otherwise would have been a struggle. However, i didnt realise that some of the cycline would be on main busy roads and als oin and around very highly populated pedestrian crowds - although my husband and I found this fine my daughter didnt, we hadnt realsed we would be cycling on the road and weaving through so many pedestrians. She found it very stressful and got quite tearful in parts. However our guide was great and very patient. Had I known what it was like I would not have booked for my daughter who didnt enjoy it much. Having said this, the tour nd the guide were both great and it is a fantastic way to see so many monuments in a short space of time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A must do in DC! Our family of 5 (kids ages 11,9, and 5) thoroughly enjoyed this tour and was definitely one of the highlights to our 3 day touring trip of DC. We had a buggy for our youngest and tandem attachment for our 9 year old. It was a fun, active way to see the monuments and having a tour guide added so much to our experience. Cal was super personable and knowledgeable of the sights we toured. It was beautiful leaving the Jefferson at dusk, making our way to FDR and MLK and finally the Lincoln at night. Spectacular views. We highly recommend!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for Families! This was one of the highlights of our stay in DC. Our guide, Sam, was very knowledgeable, personable, and a real pro! We liked the diversity of the sites we visited, and there was ample time at each stop. We even got to the Jefferson Memorial at sunset, which was a surprise for us. It was so beautiful seeing the sun set over the tidal basin. The equipment provided was well maintained and traffic could see us easily with our (groovy) vests and lighting. This tour is great for cyclists of all ages and levels of experience. You bike on the street and the sidewalks. Traffic is very bike-friendly, so don't be afraid. There was only 1 hill and it really wasn't bad at all. (Nobody ended up pushing their bike). We highly recommend this tour and hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Informative and fun What an amazing way to see the city! We only had 2 days in DC so we decided to see the monuments by doing the 6:30pm bike tour. We were so impressed with the amount of history we learned. And we were able to stay at each monument longer than I would have expected. Sam was our guide and he was fantastic. He was very professional and charismatic. Our children are 8 and 10 years old and the bike tour was perfect for them. We would definitely do this tour again and highly recommend it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fabulous family fun! I chose this tour because my eight year old daughter was interested in seeing the memorials and monuments on our trip to DC, and this seemed like a fun way to do it! We were a group of four: my husband, myself, our eight year old (on a properly-sized bike), and our two year old (towed in trailer behind my husband). Another couple joined us for the evening tour. Our guide, Celeste, was terrific: funny, knowledgeable, and engaging. She checked in on how everyone's bikes were working and was able to make a couple of adjustments on the fly. We were a bit nervous because it was a cloudy and rainy evening, but we ended up having a great time anyway! Celeste had ponchos if needed and she was able to point us toward some restaurant selections to warm up at the end of the ride. We would absolutely do this tour again on a future trip.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from informative site seeing! Great tour! Would recommend if you have limited time to spend in dc or if you want to get your bearings of what city sights are around. Biking is mostly on paths & the small amount of road cycling was handled by the guide with ease so you feel very safe. I felt there was enough time at each site - touring by bike is the only way to do it! Shout out to Jana who was an awesome guide - excellent history & facts I would never have found out visiting on my own!
