    • Expand/Collapse Are reservations required?

      Reservations are required for every tour we offer. All walk-up customers will be accommodated in the best possible manner based on guide and Segway availability. Our tours fill to capacity on a regular basis. For this reason we highly suggest making a reservation online or contacting us directly to make a reservation. We don't want to fill our tour and miss showing you around!

    • Expand/Collapse Where is the meeting point?

      All Segway tours begin at our office, located at 333 Jefferson St., Suite 123, San Francisco, CA 94133. We are located in a walkway that begins between the In N Out Burger and Sunglass Hut in the Anchorage Square Shopping Center.

      Alcatraz Island ferries depart from Pier 33, which is a 15 minute's walk from our office. 


    • Expand/Collapse Is parking available near the office?

      Yes, there is a parking garage in the Anchorage Square Shopping Center (the building in which we're located). Please note the entrance to the garage (500 Beach St) is slightly different than our office address (333 Jefferson St, Suite 123), but we are in the same building. Street parking is also available in the area, but is subject to meter fees, time limits, and restricted hours.

    • Expand/Collapse Can minors come on tour alone?

      For safety reasons, minors (anyone under the age of 18) must be accompanied by an adult on the tour.

    • Expand/Collapse If I am pregnant can I join the tour?

      Unfortunately, due to the risk to both child and mother, pregnant women are not allowed to participate on our Segway Tours.

    • Expand/Collapse How big will my group be?

      Our tours operate in groups of 8.

    • Expand/Collapse What if my party is more than 8 people?

      If the party is larger than 8 the group will be split up for safety reasons. If you would like to keep a larger group together, please inquire about one of our Private Tours.

    • Expand/Collapse Will I need to put down a deposit?

      Yes. Insurance requires that City Segway Tours pre-authorize $500 on a credit card (one per party) on the day of the reservation. Please bring your MasterCard, Visa, or Amex with you for this requirement. Your card will not be charged unless there is damage caused to the Segway and card information will be deleted immediately upon completion of a damage-free tour.

    • Expand/Collapse What time do I need to get there for my tour?

      Your tour will start promptly at the scheduled time, therefore please arrive 15 minutes prior to tourdeparture time in order to complete the necessary paperwork. Please be aware that we have multiple tours departing throughout the day, therefore if you arrive more than 30 minutes early we may still be working with other guests and not quite ready to welcome you properly. Each member of your party will be required to complete and sign a liability waiver form. Minors under the age of 18 will need a parent or guardian to complete their paperwork.

    • Expand/Collapse Is this tour offered in any other languages? Or only English?

      Our public tours are offered only in English at this time.

    • Expand/Collapse Do we go inside the museums and monuments?

      We do not enter the museums and monuments since the Segway are so much fun! However, we will give you a great orientation of the city so you'll know exactly where you will want to go after the tour.

    • Expand/Collapse Am I allowed to take pictures during the tour?

      Absolutely! However, we do recommend that you ask your guide to take your pictures so you can focus on riding and balancing on your Segway.

    • Expand/Collapse What is your cancellation policy?

      We are happy to offer full refunds for our standard Segway tours if the reservation is cancelled more than 72 hours (3 days) before the scheduled tour. We do not offer refunds for any reason once we are within the 72 hours of the scheduled tour

      Cancellations for the Alcatraz Island & Segway Tour Combo and Alcatraz Island & Sunset Segway Tour Combo must be made by 4:00pm Pacific Time at least 4 days before the scheduled ticket departure. Any cancellations beyond this time are non-refundable. City Segway Tours does not offer refunds for any reason beyond the the cancellation window given.

      Please note that Big Bus Tour sales are final. 

    • Expand/Collapse Are tours cancelled in case of rain?

      No. Our tours operate rain or shine. We have ponchos available for purchase in our office for $1 and are happy to refund the price if it is unopened and unused.

    • Expand/Collapse I've never ridden a Segway before; will I be able to pick it up quickly?

      Your safety is always our highest priority; therefore, we begin each tour with a very thorough orientation of the Segway and its use before going out to enjoy the city!

    • Expand/Collapse Is there an age or weight limit?

      For your riding safety, guests must be at least 12 years of age and weigh at least 100 pounds and not in excess of 260 pounds. Here in San Francisco we have to stick very strictly to our minimum weight of 100 pounds, as anyone under that weight runs the risk of having the Segway respond improperly on the (small) hills encountered on tour.

    • Expand/Collapse Are the Segways safe for people with disabilities?

      We have had several people with disabilities join our tours. The necessary range of motion required to operate a Segway is similar to that of being able to transfer weight from one foot to another while walking. Also, riding a Segway does require the need to be able to stand for long periods of time. Each of our tours begins with a short safety video followed by time to practice in our training area across the street and instruction from your tour guide. We will practice on the Segways until everyone feels comfortable.

      Unfortunately we do not rent our Segways out to individuals without a guide.

    • Expand/Collapse How much is a private tour?

      All of our private tour requests are individually analyzed by our private tours department, and quotes are given based on a number of factors including tour guide availability, booking time, season, Segway availability, and group size. Custom-built tours or smaller private group tours will usually cost more than our public tours given the planning time, any special requirements or requests our guests may have, and the privatization of one or a few of our tour guides.

    • Expand/Collapse What’s included on a private tour?

      Almost anything you’d like! We will include all necessary equipment and a knowledgeable guide.  Lunch/dinner is usually not included unless specified.

    • Expand/Collapse What if my party is more than 8 people?

      Though our typical public Segway tours have only eight guests per tour guide, a small group private tour puts you in charge and allows you to enjoy the city just the way you want to see it. We can take larger groups as private tours but please note that accomodating larger groups are subject to different pricing and plans and must be made in advance to make allowances for tour guides and machines.
