  • Expand/Collapse General FAQs
    • Expand/Collapse What is your cancellation policy?

We offer 100% refunds on all tours if the reservation is canceled more than 72 hours (3 days) before the scheduled tour. We do not offer refunds for any reason once we are within 72 hours of the scheduled tour.

    • Expand/Collapse Where do I go for my tour?

Our shop is just off Karlsplatz 4 (Stachus), the bustling square between the Main Train Station (Hauptbahnhof) and Marienplatz. At the Karlsplatz fountain with your back to Karlstor and the pedestrian shopping street, turn right along Sonnenstrasse. After 50 meters, you will see our shop in the courtyard of Karlsplatz 4, on the right-hand side. The closest metro station is Karlsplatz (Stachus).

    • Expand/Collapse What are the seasonal open dates of Fat Tire Tours Munich?

Our regularly-scheduled daily tours run from March 15th through October 31st, however we run private tours and tours for special events year round.  Just contact us if you wish to tour outside of our normal season.

    • Expand/Collapse Are tours cancelled in case of rain?

No, our tours run rain or shine. We have ponchos available for anyone that needs them in our office.

    • Expand/Collapse Do we go inside museums and monuments?

We do not go in to any of the museums as most require an official employee of theirs to conduct a guided tour and while some people may want to spend 10 minutes in a museum, others may want to spend 4 hours. We’re here to Segway and enjoy the city so that’s what we’re going to do!

  • Expand/Collapse Segway Tour FAQs
    • Expand/Collapse What is a Segway?

The SegwayTM Human Transporter is the first of its kind-a self-balancing, personal transportation device designed to go anywhere people do. Easy to use and operate, the two-wheeled Segway sports high-tech gyroscopes that automatically respond to your body’s movements, “sensing” when it should speed up and slow down.

You stand on a small platform between left and right wheels as you hold onto handlebars at a comfortable waist height. The Segway handles the balancing for you, so that you’re always upright as you glide through any environment.

    • Expand/Collapse How far in advanced do I need to reserve?

Occasionally we do have space available should you call the morning of your desired tour. This, however, is rare and we suggest you reserve as far ahead of time as possible. We tend to fill all of our tours.

    • Expand/Collapse How many people take part in the Segway tours?

Our tours are very popular, and for good reason.  We highly recommend reservations for all of our tours, but are happy to accommodate walk-ups as space is often available.  To make sure our tours are fun, safe, and a great experience for everyone, we have extra guides on hand should we need to split larger groups.

    • Expand/Collapse Are there restrictions on who can ride Segways?

Yes.  Riding Segways in Germany come with a few restrictions:

      • Each participant must have a valid driver's license and have that license with them on tour (provisional and “leaner’s permits” unfortunately don’t work).
      • Each participant must weigh between 100 lbs (45 kgs) and 255 lbs (117kgs).
      • Women who are pregnant should not ride Segways.
      • We have a strict policy against alcohol consumption and Segway operation. Alcohol is forbidden on all Segway tours and any client suspected of drinking before or during a Segway tour will immediately forfeit their tour and no refund will be given.
    • Expand/Collapse How long do the Segway tours last? What if I can’t take part in the whole tour because of a previous engagement?

Our Grand Segway Tour lasts about 4 hours and our Afternoon Mini Tour about 2.5 hours, including a short training session at the start of the tour.  As you will need to stay with your guide while on Segways, it is not possible to leave the tour early.

    • Expand/Collapse Is there a damage deposit for the Segway Tour?

While no deposit is taken before tour, you will need to fill out a fast disclaimer and damage waiver form before joining tour.

    • Expand/Collapse Are Fat Tire Segway Tours appropriate for children?

Basically, no.

      • We have a strict policy against alcohol consumption and Segway operation. Alcohol is forbidden on all Segway tours and any client suspected of drinking before or during a Segway tour will immediately forfeit their tour and no refund will be given.
    • Expand/Collapse Can I rent a Segway without a guide?

Unfortunately, we cannot rent our Segways out to individuals without a guide. Since our tours are virtually always full, we need all machines for our tour customers.
