FAQ

  • Expand/Collapse Where is the meeting point?

All Segway tours begin at our office, located at 910 S. Michigan Ave., Suite 130, Chicago, IL 60605, at the south end of Grant Park. Our entrance is located on 9th Street, steps away from the intersection of Michigan Avenue and 9th.

  • Expand/Collapse Is there an age or weight limit?

For your riding safety, guests must be at least 12 years of age and weigh at least 100 pounds and not in excess of 260 pounds.

  • Expand/Collapse How big will my group be?

Our tours operate in groups of 8 guests or less.

  • Expand/Collapse What if my party is more than 8 people?

If the party is larger than 8 the group will be split up for safety reasons. We can take larger groups as private tours; however those are subject to different pricing and plans and must be made in advance to make allowances for tour guides and machines.

  • Expand/Collapse What time do I need to get there for my tour?

Your tour will start promptly at the scheduled time, therefore please arrive 15 minutes prior to tou departure time in order to complete the necessary paperwork. Please be aware that we have multiple tours departing throughout the day, therefore if you arrive more than 30 minutes early we may still be working with other guests. This means that even if you arrive early, your tour will still begin at the scheduled time. Each member of your party will be required to complete and sign a liability waiver form. Minors under the age of 18 will need a parent or guardian to complete their paperwork.

  • Expand/Collapse Will I need to put down a deposit?

We do not take a deposit, though we do ask one member of your party to provide us with a credit card to save on file while you are on tour. Your card will not be charged unless there is damage caused to the Segway and card information will be deleted immediately upon completion of a damage-free tour.

  • Expand/Collapse Is this tour offered in any other languages or only English?

At this time, our tour are only offered in English.

  • Expand/Collapse I've never ridden a Segway before; will I be able to pick it up quickly?

Your safety is always our highest priority; therefore, we begin each tour with a very thorough orientation of the Segway and its use before going out to enjoy the city! Each of our tours will begin with a short safety video followed by time to practice in our training area across the street and instruction from your tour guide. We will practice on the Segways until everyone feels comfortable.

  • Expand/Collapse Can minors come on tour alone?

For safety reasons, minors (anyone under the age of 18) must be accompanied by an adult on the tour.

  • Expand/Collapse If I am pregnant can I join the tour?

Unfortunately, due to the risk to both child and mother, pregnant women are not allowed to participate on our Segway tours.

  • Expand/Collapse What is your cancellation policy?

We are happy to offer full refunds for our Segway tour if the reservation is cancelled more than 24 hours (1 day) before the scheduled tour. We do not offer refunds for any reason once we are within the 24 hours of the scheduled tour.

  • Expand/Collapse Are the tours cancelled if it rains?

All of our tours run rain or shine. In the event of rain, guides will have ponchos that are free of charge.

  • Expand/Collapse What's the closest Subway (L) station to the meeting point?

We're located midway between the Roosevelt stop (Red, Orange and Green Lines) and Harrison (Red Line only). Chicago's transit system provides real-time updates to the Google Maps app on major smartphones and more information can also be found at TransitChicago.com for routes, stops and timing.

  • Expand/Collapse Is there parking available near the office?

There is a parking garage in Columbia Plaza (the building we are located in). It is operated by PMI Parking. Note the address of the parking garage (2400 Virginia Ave NW) is slightly different than our address (502 23rd St NW), but they are in the same building. There is also street parking available near our office, but be sure to check the meters as they may restrict the parking time to 2 hours. Or, they may not allow parking during certain hours. Though parking is available, we always encourage our guests to use the METRO to avoid street closures, heavy traffic and difficulty finding parking.

Chicago Segway Tour Reviews

CHICAGO SEGWAY TOUR is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 170.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Josh was an awesome guide! We were in town for the Rock n Roll races and it was our first time in Chicago. We wanted a tour that would teach us lots and show us all of the sights. We picked the Segway tour over the bus or boat or bike tours because we love riding Segways! Josh is a teacher so he was the perfect guide, full of facts and able to entertain a crowd! We picked your company over the others because of your coupon and the length of your tour. We sure appreciated the restrooms available before and after the tour. And it was so nice that you only charged $1 for your bottled water eventhough you could have easily charged more. We loved the tour and highly recommend Josh!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Best Way to see The Best of Chicago This was my husband and my first trip to Chicago and the Segway Tour was not our idea - it was the brain child of our 24 year old son who was meeting us there. We are from Cleveland, Ohio and he lives in Columbus, Ohio. Not wanting to appear "old" off we went on the 3 hour tour. We saw so much more of Chicago than we would have had we done a walking or bus tour and the amazing weather made for an even more enjoyable trip. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable but also allowed us time to enjoy the sites on our own. Overall, it was the highlight of our trip to Chicago and we will definitely do it again the next time it is offered in another city we visit!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Chicago on a segway Our second Segway tour, first in Chicago. Really enjoyed the tour and the tour guide. Many people think these are difficult to use, but they are not. A minute or two to get comfortable and you are good to go. Interesting way to see the city along the lake. The guide gave many little tidbits about Chicago and its history. Small group made it an enjoyable experience. Lots of foot traffic along the city sidewalks but that's not the tour groups fault and you adjust quickly. I would recommend this to anyone that wants something different. As we visit other cities not only will we look for Segway tours, but will look for this company!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from City 3 hour tour This tour was a disappointment. Right from the beginning. We started out on the sidewalk of Michigan Avenue. There were a ton of people that we had to maneuver through. Instead of looking at any of the scenery we had to do everything we could not to hit the pedestrians. There was not any pointing out of the different buildings. Once we did stop for our guide to talk with us (Casey), her information was very limited. At other stops we heard other guides and they seemed to have their group captivated. I felt it was a lot of money, and not worth it. Buy a guide book and save some money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Above and beyond service - outstanding tour The 3-hour Segway tour through Chicago was the perfect introduction to the city and a great experience for my older brother and I. It was the first time he had been on a segway, and Chris made him feel at ease and comfortable. The tour was great - really informative and fun. Additionally, the guys at City Segway went above and beyond. I left my keys in my Segway pouch and proceeded to call everyone on the tour until they reached me about the lost items. They saved me a giant headache - and have no clue how much I appreciate it! I could not recommend them higher. Thank you guys for making the trip to Chicago so memorable!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great way to see Chicago and have some fun! I have always wanted to do the Segway Tour in Chicago and was there for a girl's weekend. It was rainy and chilly but I convienced my friend to say yes...and we are so glad we did!!! Tammy was our guide...she is amazing! My friend and I were both a little nervous having never been on Segways before. Riding lessons are part of the tour and you don't go out until you are comfortable riding the Segway (which are a lot easier than I imagined!). You cover a lot of ground and see some amazing areas of Chicago!! I have been on numerous Chicago tours and still learned more fun facts about the city! I highly recommend this for all age groups (my friend and I are late 40's).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Ride to remember! City Segway Tours was one of the most incredible experiences of my life. Being from Austin, TX and bringing my friend who lives in Chicago with me, it was interesting to find that she learned as much on the tour as I did! Our tour guide was witty, intelligent and fun. He both cracked jokes to keep the history bits interesting yet conveyed a ton of information and even suggested other events, sights and hidden gems around the city that most tourists wouldn't think to do! (Such as scuba diving to look at the crashed planes in the lake!) All in all, I have to give this tour a 6 out of 5!!! It was absolutely phenomenal, with both great guides and the super fun segways.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Guide and Tour Tammie, our guide, was fabulous. We've done Segways in other cities and she's been the best instructor to date. She explained in detail how the Segways worked and gave us plenty of practice time. Her love for the city was apparent as was her knowledge. She always made you aware of any potential safety problems, such as going over potholes, curbs, etc. she ensured that everyone was safely across before continuing on. She was very personable. The tour itself was beautiful. We hit all the major sites along the lakefront (museum campus, soldier field, etc) to which we went back to visit later. Recommend it for anyone's first trip to Chicago. Great way to see the city.
