Our Segway tour is the perfect tour for both those new to the city and those locals looking to experience Washington DC with an effortless glide. For the newbies to DC, this tour will offer you a fantastic orientation and give you an opportunity to see virtually all of the sites you’ve read about. For the veterans, we’re positive you’ll learn new facts and stories about Washington that you’ve never heard. And we’re sure you’ll both agree that riding a Segway is the best way to see the ‘Capital City’.

Highlights of the tour include:
*changes in tour route may be necessary due to construction and security related issues.

  • White House – possibly the most photographed building in the world and the greatest symbol of power. Every president except George Washington has lived in this Executive Mansion.
  • United States Capitol – the government moved to “Jenkins’ Hill“ in 1800 and the building has been in constant development since. The only public building in the city where they don’t know the exact cornerstone.
  • Smithsonian Castle – established by British scientist, James Smithson, who sent his fortune in 100 bags of gold for “the increase and diffusion of knowledge”. Serving as the first endowment of the Smithsonian Institution which has grown to 15 buildings and complexes.
  • Smithsonian Air & Space Museum – in only three decades this the most visited museum in the world. Learn why the Smithsonian Institute had to build another museum 40 miles away. The museum on the Mall houses the largest collection of historic air and spacecraft in the world!
  • Supreme Court – the highest court in the land.
  • National Galleries of Art – find out which museum was the site of our country’s first presidential assassination. Pieces from the world’s finest artisans over the last 3 centuries.
  • Smithsonian Natural History – the second most visited museum in the world. Hear the mystique behind the Hope Diamond and so much more.
  • Smithsonian American History Museum – How could they call a museum “America’s Attic”? This museum collects anything possible, but got its start with the original flag for the United States and the story behind it.
  • Washington Monument – the pinnacle structure dedicated to the founder of our country, George Washington. The centerpiece of the National Mall.
  • National Archives – the home of the United States Constitution, the Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights.
  • Ford's Theatre – site of Abraham Lincoln's assassination.
  • Also see the Spy Museum, FBI Headquarters, Old Executive Building and more!

Parking
For the DAY TOUR, the Metro or a Parking Garage will be your best option because street parking is only good for 1 hour or 2 hours at a time and this is strictly enforced. If you want to use a parking garage in this area, they typically charge $7 - $9 per hour.

For the EVENING TOUR, the best option is street parking. You would need to pay the parking meter through 6:30 pm and then it’s free. Give yourself some extra time to find a space within a few blocks from the office, which isn’t too hard because many people are leaving the surrounding office buildings at this time. The streets in this immediate area are usually pretty clogged, so again please allow plenty of time to find a space. Otherwise, drive into one of the many parking garages.

Considerations
Please be aware that many garages in DC are not open very late, so be sure to double check before you enter or leave the garage for operating hours. Always check for temporary parking signs; due to federal security restrictions, street closures are very common in the Central Business District.

Important Notes
Your safety is always our highest priority, therefore each of our tours begins with a 30-minute orientation session. We will practice on the Segways until everyone feels comfortable and is ready to conquer DC. The Segway is appropriate for virtually anyone 16 and older. Anyone suspected of being under the influence of alcohol will not be permitted to ride. Unfortunately, pregnant women will not be permitted to participate. Children under 16 are welcome to participate on the tour by bicycle. Got questions? Email us at DC@CitySegwayTours.com.
